Frequently Asked Questions
What unique features does Nanolume® offer that will improve my experience living with chronic pain?
Nanolume® offers a range of smart features that make it easier for you and your care team to track and monitor pain.
1. Pain Types: Nanolume can track simple or complex types of persistent pain, with up to 16 recordable pain types (3 of which are customizable). We help you sort out, understand, and communicate precisely what types of pain you are feeling.
2. Pain Intensity: A convenient slider allows you to dial in the intensity of each type of pain you feel. Unlimited event reporting can reveal changes with treatment or time.
3. Pain Location: Using an easy-to-understand visual model, you can outline where each pain type is located. The app allows you to layer multiple types of pain in any location.
4. Pain Coverage: The app calculates how much of the body’s surface is experiencing pain and tracks how the surface area of each pain type changes with time or treatment.
Why did you create the Nanolume® Pain Tracker & Diary?
We created the Pain Tracker & Diary to give users an easier way to visually communicate with their doctors exactly what they’re feeling. The app allows users to record and track the intensity and location of uniquely distinct types of pain on their mobile devices. By documenting the unique characteristics of each pain type experienced, users can share a detailed map of their symptoms with their healthcare team. This data can help lead to more accurate diagnoses, better-targeted treatment plans, and more effective monitoring of treatment progress.
From what I can see of your app, it seems close to what I’m looking for. The layers are a great idea — I’ve often had multiple types of pain in the same area at the same time. I’m looking for the ability to save a drawing of my pain as a template. In the past couple of months, I’ve noticed recurring patterns. Does the app have the ability to create templates?
Yes. Our app’s Android® and Apple® versions allow users to create a copy of a saved pain map, which can be used as a template. To do this, simply open the saved map you want to reuse from the entry list page, tap the copy icon, and save the copied pain map. This copied map will serve as a template for your next entry. See, also, the next question.
What if I want to copy a complex drawing with multiple layers of different kinds of pain in various locations with different intensities but want to delete or edit just one of the pain layers I previously drew – leaving everything else as it was? Can the app do that?
Yes, both the Android® and Apple® versions of the app allow you to copy a complex pain map with multiple layers to use as a template for your next diary entry. Once you’ve copied a previous entry, you can edit or delete individual pain layers without affecting the others. For detailed instructions on how to do this, please refer to the General Help section in each app.
Does your app have an export feature to share data visualizations?
Yes, both our Android® and Apple® apps allow you to export data visualizations as PDF files. These files include images of all the pain layers you’ve drawn in each saved diary entry, as well as charts showing how the intensity and surface area of each pain type changes over time.
Can I make copies of my pain diary?
Yes, you can create a PDF or CSV file of your pain diary data.
The PDF file includes:
- A timeline chart of your combined pain intensities and coverage areas,
- A composite image of the pain layers you’ve outlined on your pain map for each diary entry.
- A timeline chart showing the pain intensity and coverage area of each unique pain type you tracked in your saved entries.
The CSV file contains:
- A numeric record of the intensity and coverage area for each unique pain type you’ve mapped in every saved diary entry.
- The CSV file can be opened in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or Apple Numbers.
I lost my phone. Can I get a copy of all of my pain maps?
Unfortunately, Nanolume® LLC cannot access the data you save on your mobile device, so we’re unable to provide a copy of your pain maps if you lose your phone. The app does allow you to create and export a PDF file of your saved data. The PDF includes a summary map of each pain layer you’ve recorded in your diary entries, along with charts showing the timeline of intensity and coverage area for each pain type. For peace of mind, we recommend creating a monthly backup PDF of your pain data to keep a record of your entries.
Can I transfer Pain Tracker & Diary data from one mobile device to another?
Currently, the app does not support transferring data directly between devices. If you switch devices, your data will not carry over. We recommend exporting your data as a PDF or CSV file before switching devices to keep a backup of your pain maps and entries.
Can I leave a pain diary entry open all day and add the different types of pain I feel as the day progresses?
No, the app is not designed to keep a diary entry open throughout the day. Instead, it allows you to create snapshots of your pain at specific points in time. You can draw pictures of your pain at different times during the day or whenever the intensity and location of your pain types change. This design helps you track how each type of pain evolves over time and how it responds to treatments.
